Summary
- We collect your name and email address only when you give them to us, through the newsletter, the contact form or a purchase.
- The website uses Google Analytics to count visitors. The numbers are used in aggregate; we do not build profiles of individual people.
- We never sell your information and never share it for advertising.
- You can unsubscribe, ask what we hold about you or ask us to delete it at any time.
What We Collect and Why
Newsletter (Science & Soul Notes). When you subscribe we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first and last name. These are used to send the newsletter. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by contacting us. Your details are kept until you unsubscribe.
Contact form. When you send a message we receive your name, your email address and whatever you write, and we use these to read and reply. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us. Messages are kept for up to two years, then deleted unless the conversation is ongoing.
Purchases. When you buy something from the website (for example a digital guide) our payment provider collects the details needed to take payment, and we receive your name, your email address and a record of what you bought. These are used to deliver your purchase and to keep the accounting records the law requires. Legal basis: performance of a contract, and legal obligation for the records. Purchase records are kept for six years, as UK tax law requires. We never see or store your card number - payment details go directly to the payment provider.
Visitor statistics. The website uses Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies and collects information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and how long you stay. This is used in aggregate to understand which pages people find useful. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the website is used. UK law permits these cookies without consent when they are used solely for statistical purposes, with an opt-out offered - see Cookies below. Analytics data is retained for 14 months.
We do not collect any special category (sensitive) information through this website, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. The website is written for adults; if you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. This website sets:
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
| `_ga` | Google Analytics | Tells returning visitors apart, in aggregate | 2 years |
| `_ga_[id]` | Google Analytics | Counts visits and pages viewed | 2 years |
The forms on this website are provided by Showit (the website platform) and Mailchimp (the newsletter service); they may set short-lived cookies needed to make the forms work.
Opting out of analytics. You can opt out at any time using the switch below, which turns analytics off on your device and deletes the cookies already set.
You can also install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout or block cookies in your browser settings. None of these will stop the website working.
Who We Share Information With
A small number of companies process personal information on our behalf to run this website:
- Showit - hosts the website and its forms
- Mailchimp (Intuit) - stores the newsletter list and sends the emails
- Google - provides the visitor statistics described above
- Stripe - takes payment when you buy something
These providers may only use your information to provide their services to us, except that the payment provider also uses transaction data to meet its own legal duties, such as fraud prevention. We will also disclose information where the law requires it (for example a court order). We do not sell personal information, share it with advertisers or use it to train AI models.
Where Your Information Goes
Some of these providers are US companies, so your information can be transferred to the United States. Google and Mailchimp are certified under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which requires them to protect your information to UK standards. Transfers to Showit are covered by contract safeguards permitted under UK law.
Your Rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you, and give you a copy
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your information, unless the law requires us to keep it (for example tax records)
- stop using it for direct marketing, which we will do immediately
- restrict or object to other uses of it
- give you your information in a portable format
To use any of these rights, email **privacy@jessicawarren.co** or use the contact page. We may need to verify your identity, and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, we would appreciate the chance to put it right first - but you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at [ico.org.uk](https://ico.org.uk) or on 0303 123 1113.
Automated Decisions and AI
This website does not make automated decisions about you and does not use your personal information for profiling or to train AI systems.
Changes to This Policy
If we make meaningful changes we will update this page and the date at the top, and significant changes will be mentioned in the newsletter. This policy replaces the version dated 4 May 2021.
